Antique Hammersley Demitasse Cup & Saucer, Exotic Birds
This porcelain demitasse cup and saucer was produced in Longton, England by Hammersley around 1939. It is artist signed, F. The saucer has a diameter of 4 1/2 inches. The cup is 2 3/8 inches tall with a diameter of 2 1/4 inches. The set is made of fine, white bone china. The shape of the cup is taken from 18th century fashion with ring handle and graceful contours. The ground color is lavender and is covered in tiny circles and dots, "oeuil de perdrix" or partridge eyes. A reserve on the front of the cup and in the well of the saucer contain beautiful hand painted pheasants of vibrant colors in wooded landscapes. One tiny bird is perched on a branch just inside the rim of the cup. The rims and handle are richly gilded. This demitasse cup and saucer was designed in the Royal Worcester and Crown Derby traditions. The Post Office requires this.
