This porcelain demitasse cup and saucer was produced in Vienna, Austria by the Franz Dorfl Porcelain Decorating Shop around 1902. The saucer has a diameter of 4 ¼ inches and the cup is 2 ¼ inches high.
The ground color is deep cobalt blue. The front of the cup has a hand painted scene of a young maiden being bound to a tree by cupid. These allegorical subjects were popular with the public in the Victorian era.The painting is fine quality and has vibrant colors. The scene is framed with raised gold. The sides of the cup and the saucer are decorated with ornate hand gilding accented with white beaded enamel.
