Superb Antique Ernst Wahliss Bird Demitasse Cup And Saucer On Pirkenhammer Blank

  
DESCRIPTION : Here is a superb late 19th century signed Ernst Wahliss very see through china demi tasse cup and saucer decorated on a Pirkenhammer blank. The cup hand decorated with a colourful bird above water with a dragonfly on either side and surrounded by seven raised gilt dots. There are two banks of raised gilt rocks with colourful flowers, leaves and raised gilt flowers growing from the rocks. Between the two banks of rocks are two stretches of water with raised gilt leaves showing out the top. Below the decorative panel are two 2 tone gilt bands with a decorative gilt pattern below. It has the same gilt patter to the top rim inside the cup and a double circle to the base on the inside. The white ground is decorated all over with tiny gilt dots.

The cup has a two tone gilt lined top rim and has a gilt lined foot. The loop handle is fully gilt to the underside and to the ends of the terminals, with a decorative gilt pattern down the back of the handle. The saucer having the same pattern but has three birds.

It has a slightly raised gilt lined well. The decoration is a mixture of hand painting, enameling, flat and raised gilding.

The saucer is marked to the base with a green Pirkenhammer back stamp with each having a red painted Wahliss Wien to the bases. Dates from 1890 to circa 1900. SIZE : The cup measures 5.6 cm high and 6 cm in diameter. The saucer measures 10.7 cm in diameter. Weighs 96 g before packing. CONDITION : The top rim has light gilt ware to the top rim, light gilt ware about 1/4 way around the rim and slight gilt ware to the slightly raised gilt lined well and slight gilt ware to the double circle at the bottom inside the cup. Otherwise in good condition with no chips, cracks or restoration.
