The pattern (Schleiger # 157) consists of petite pink and white flowers with green leaves. There are lighter green leaves to give depth to the design.
The cups have gold daubs at the rim & foot and stippled gold on both sides of the embossed twig handle which is attached, not molded. This mold is identified as blank #130. Both the cup and saucer have very interesting embossing.The saucers have 8 gold daubs on the shell shapes on the rim. CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, the condition is superb. We find no nicks, chips, scratches, cracks, hairlines, or repairs.
There appears to be absolutely no wear to the colors and no crazing. The lack of utensil scratches on the set attests to the high quality of the porcelain china. DIMENSIONS: The cups have a height of 2 3/8" with a diameter of 2 3/8" and a capacity of 5 ounces. The saucer has a diameter of 4 5/8" with a height of 5/8".HISTORY/MARKS: The American-born David Haviland settled in Limoges, France in 1842 operating a porcelain exporting business to the USA. In 1847, he established a decorating studio in Limoges. He started producing porcelain in Limoges in 1865 and decorating it on site.
His sons, Charles Edward and Theodore, continued the prosperous business after David's death in 1879. Theodore left to establish his own firm in 1892 and was joined by his son, William, in 1903. In 1919, Theodore died and his firm passed on to his son. It remained in the Haviland family until 1972.
