This is a rare set of 8 matching Moser demitasse cups and saucers, circa 1890. They are made of beautiful cranberry glass and the cups and saucers are decorated with colorful enamel flowers and leaves and composite gold enamel stems against a gilded ground. The cups are oval in shape with applied gilded handles. They have polished pontils on their bottoms. The saucers vary from 4-1/2 to 4-5/8 inches in diameter and the cups are 1-3/4 inches tall and 3 inches wide by 2 inches deep.
This beautiful set is in overall good condition. There is a little light scattered wear to the gilding on the cups and saucers and a small pin point size nick to the edge of one of the saucers. The cranberry color is somewhat lighter on 2 or 3 of the saucers and one of them appears to have had a chip repaired on its edge.. There is wear to the gilding on the thin composite enamel stems of the flowers and the tiny round specks of enamel that hang down below the wide gilded band on the cups and the saucers. You see this on almost all Moser gilded pieces. None of this detracts from the overall beauty of this set. Whoever owned it took excellent care of it for over 100 years. It will be a great addition to any collection. It looks better in person than the pictures show.
