CUPS AND SAUCERS MADE BY HEREND MADE IN HUNGARY IN ROTHCHILD BIRD PATTERN , COLORFUL INSECTS ON ALL PIECES. 8 FOOTED CUPS 1 3/4 INCH. 8 SAUCERS 4 5/8 INCH. HAND PAINTED IN A SCALLOPED GOLD TRIM EDGE. ALL HALLMARK WELL PATTERN 735.
The DEMI TASSE SET has been decorated in the'Rothschild Bird' pattern, first introduced in 1860 by Herend for the Rothschild family. The story behind the pattern is based upon Rothschild family legend, in which birds found a necklace lost by the Baroness Rothschild in her Vienna garden and brought it to a treetop to play with it. Porcelain decorated in Herend's popular Rothschild Bird pattern features the two birds perched in a tree with the necklace belonging to the Baroness draped across the branch between them. The pattern on this pieces also includes several colorful winged insects.
