This porcelain demitasse cup and saucer was produced in Germany by Meissen in the 1890s. It has blue crossed swords marks under theglaze. The saucer has a diameter of 4 1/4 inches and is 7/8 inches deep. The cup is 2 inches tall with a diameter of. The ground color is deep cobalt blue.
There are reserves on the front of the cup and center of the saucer containing magnificent sprays of realistic flowers in vibrant colors. The cobalt blue is accented with the most delicate and exquisite gilding, all done by hand. Even the inside rim of the cup has lacy gold trim. At the bottom of the cup is a gilded medallion.
The handle and outside of the saucer have gold accents. This Meissen demitasse cup and saucer is what all other porcelain manufacturers aspired to produce.
